Frans will represent the host country!

The Melodifestivalen final took place Stockholm, where out of 12 diverse acts, one was chosen to represent the host country at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. The Swedish national final is one of the most popular across Europe, so many were tuning in on the night to see which act will attempt to defend the title. The national final has many different rounds – four semi-finals which formed a tour around the country, a second chance round, and then the final, where the final 12 performed.

The voting to decide the winner was 50% televotes, and 50% by a jury which consists of 11 jury groups from across Europe and Australia. Televoters could continue voting until 5 minutes after the jury groups revealed their points. This means that the viewers could see the results and keep voting to make sure their favourite won the night. Here’s the acts, and their results:

The votes were close between Oscar Zia and Frans, however the televotes gave Frans the edge, so he will be taking his song If I Were Sorry to Eurovision this year. He is automatically in the final, as Sweden is the host country.
